Privacy Policy

Split Instant ("the App", "we", "us") is an expense-splitting app for Android. This policy explains what data the App handles, how it is used, and your choices — in plain language.

The short version: Split Instant works fully offline. Your events, expenses, members, and settings are stored only on your device and are never uploaded to a server. We do not require an account and do not collect personal information ourselves. The only outside data collection comes from the advertising service (Google AdMob) used to show ads in the App — described below.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

Split Instant does not require sign-up or login, and we do not operate any backend server that stores your data. We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, photos, or any other personal data on our own servers.

2. Information Stored On Your Device

To function, the App stores the following data locally on your device only (using your device's native app storage, not a cloud service):

Your display name and preferred currency (entered by you during setup)
Events, expenses, members, groups, and families you create
Settlement/paid status for splits

This data stays on your device. Uninstalling the App or clearing its app data/storage will permanently delete it — we cannot recover it, since we never had a copy.

3. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The App shows interstitial ads served by Google AdMob at natural checkpoints (for example, after viewing a calculated split, or after adding several expenses). To serve and measure ads, Google's Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process:

Advertising identifiers (Android Advertising ID)
Device and app information (device model, OS version, app version, language, time zone)
IP address and general/coarse location derived from it
Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks)

This data is collected and processed by Google, not by us, under Google's own privacy policy. We do not receive or store this data ourselves. You can learn more about how Google uses this data, and manage your ad personalization settings, at:

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell or share your data with third parties. The only outside party involved is Google AdMob, described above, which operates independently under its own privacy policy.

5. Data Security

Because your data never leaves your device, its security depends on your device's own security (screen lock, OS-level app sandboxing, etc.). We recommend exporting a PDF backup of important events before uninstalling the App or switching devices, since data cannot be recovered otherwise.

6. Children's Privacy

Split Instant is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Advertising shown in the App is served in accordance with Google AdMob's policies for the applicable audience setting of this app.

7. Your Choices

You can delete all App data at any time by uninstalling the App or clearing its storage from your device's App Info settings.
You can opt out of personalized advertising via your device's ad settings (Settings → Google → Ads).
You can export your event data as a PDF at any time from within the App before deleting it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add new features or third-party services. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
